Our original Float avalanche airbags were designed to be light, affordable, and easy to use. They have lived up to that since 2010, as the best-selling avalanche airbags in North America. In 2022, we’re making your life even easier. In addition to our Float 2.0 compressed air system, we’re offering the new Float E2, our electronic airbag system that’s fully rechargeable and approved for airline travel. With the Float E2, it’s possible to perform multiple deployments in the field–or in your garage. We’re not advocating getting involved in multiple avalanches—or even one, for that matter. But we’ve always been advocates of regularly practicing with your equipment. And we’re all human. Even us “experts” at BCA have inadvertent deployments once in a while when riding. It’s nice to have backup so you don’t have to call it a day after a mistake.

BCA's new Float E2 Turbo airbag packs use an Alpride E2 supercapacitor system to store energy that powers the compressor upon deployment. Supercapacitors store and release energy based on electromechanical properties rather than a chemical reaction like in rechargeable batteries. This makes supercapacitor performance much more reliable in cold temperatures. For the same reason, the energy stored in a supercapacitor releases faster when activated for deployment. The new E2 system is 40 percent smaller and 25 percent lighter than the existing Alpride E1 system, with a 162-liter airbag. Our E2 Turbo packs' innovative Back Stash zip makes it a cinch to route your BC Link radio and/or hydration system from the shoulder straps into the main compartment without opening the airbag compartment. The Side Stash pocket and curved side zip enable you to access gear without removing the pack. After all, it's safety equipment; why take it off if you don't have to?

In addition to the supercapacitor storage, you can install two AA batteries to allow for additional deployments in the field. The batteries also help keep the supercapacitors at full charge when not in use. AA alkaline batteries allow for one additional deployment and is capable of keeping the system charged for up to three months of normal use. AA lithium batteries allow for three additional deployments and is capable of keeping the system charged for up to five months of normal use.
